Mt. Pleasant, SC
Mt Pleasant, SC lies East of the Cooper River from Charleston, SC. It has a population of approximately 60,000. Mt. Pleasant is also bordered by the Wando River and the Inter-Coastal Waterway.
Mt. Pleasant was occupied by the Sewee Indians when it was first settled in 1680. For many years it was populated seasonally by Charleston residents wealthy enough to afford summer homes across the river from the Charleston peninsula.
Mt. Pleasant is home to many Historic Sites such as Patriot's Point, Shem Creek, The Old Village, and Boone Hall Plantation. It is also home to the Sweetgrass Basket makers, who have been making baskets for over 300 years. The annual Blessing of the Fleet, Lowcountry Oyster Festival and Cooper River Bridge Run call Mt Pleasant Home as well.
