Kiawah Island (KEE-a-wah) is named for the Indian tribe that used to inhabit the Island and surrounding areas.  Kiawah is 10 miles of extravagant beaches where you can walk and find beautiful shells, relax and read a book on the beach, or bicycle every morning for your daily exercise.  Kiawah is filled with beautiful marshes, lagoons, rivers, and wildlife.  The Resort was originally developed in 1974 and today boasts The Sanctuary, an incredible Five Star Hotel known for its incredible dining and spa experiences. 

Kiawah boasts five award winning golf courses. The Ocean Course has hosted such acclaimed tournaments as the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 1997 and 2003 World Cups, the 2001 UBS Cup, the 2005 PGA Professional National Championship, and the 2007 Senior PGA. This course is also scheduled to host the 2012 PGA Championships.  The other courses are Turtle Point, Osprey Point, Oak Point, and Cougar Point.  The courses have been designed by Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio,Pete Dye, Gary Player, and Clyde Johnston.
