James Island is a large island bound by Wappoo Creek and Charleston Harbor to the North, the Folly River to the West, and the Stono River to the East.  James Island is filled with creeks and marshes and well known for fishing, shrimping, farming and beautiful live oaks dripping with Spanish moss.

The Civil War began on James Island on April 12, 1862.  James Island was the location of the Battle of Secessionville and Battle Wagner.

James Island remained rural until the 1960's and is now known for it's incredible annual Festival of Lights & East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival.  James Island remains a very popular place to live due to it's proximity to Downtown Charleston and Folly Beach.
